Winemaking
Primary fermentation took place in stainless steel tanks, after which the wine was racked to settle for 12 months in old 18,000-liter oak vats. In late summer/early autumn, it was transferred to seasoned 225-liter American oak barrels for 48 months of aging, undergoing a total of 8 manual rackings (trasiegas). Bottled in April and November 1992. Aged in the bottle for a minimum of 24 months prior to release.

Tasting Notes

Appearance: Clean, medium-bodied brownish-ruby with a significant sense of density. It shows vibrant reddish and orange highlights. The rim is broad and tawny (tile-red), with little distinction from the meniscus.

Nose: Medium intensity—clean, serious, and very well-defined. It carries the unmistakable air of a great Ardanza from a top vintage. It opens with a marked imprint of aged leather, fine woods, cedar, marquetry, and tung oil, over an elegant backdrop dominated by aromatic Virginia pipe tobacco. The fruit is highly reduced and maraschino-like, with a high-quality liqueur and toasted edge. Subtle smoky notes gradually give way to earthy nuances of leaf litter and humus. Overall, very orderly and composed.

Palate: Surprisingly lighter on the palate than expected. It is fresh and agile, driven by an extraordinary acidity that sustains its classic structure. It features high-toned (acídulo), bitter, and creamy nuances. Well-rounded and polished, it is remarkably easy to drink, featuring finely sculpted, silky tannins. The entire bottle disappeared before we knew it. A textbook Ardanza. Delicious.
