Winemaking:
Grapes sourced from estate vineyards and small producers in Rioja Alta. A portion of the wine remains in old 40,000-liter wooden vats and another part in concrete tanks until malolactic fermentation is complete, stabilizing for a minimum of 12 months before racking. The wine matured for 24 to 30 months in used 225-liter American oak barrels, subjected to 2-3 manual rackings per year. Membrane-filtered before bottling. Limited production of 79,960 bottles. Aged for a minimum of 10 years in the bottle within the winery's old cellars on Calle de las Cuevas, Haro, before commercial release.

Tasting Notes
Appearance:
Brownish-ruby color with medium body; clear, very clean, and
sediment-free. Brilliant and luminous with coppery and orange
reflections. Broad, tile-colored rim, showing no difference
from the meniscus.
Nose:
Initially somewhat lacking in strength and slightly flat, though
without showing clear signs of exhaustion or excessive evolution.
Vanilla and sweet spices (nutmeg, toffee, molasses) appear at first,
backed by an elegant touch of noble woods. A marked ripeness is nuanced
as it breathes, revealing a classic, recognizable, and pleasant profile
with fine balsamic notes, bitter orange, toasted cocoa, and smokiness.
Palate:
Surprisingly vigorous, energetic, and sapid, showing more volume and
presence than the Viña Berceo Gran Reservas of the same era. It holds
firm thanks to an ample acidity that allows the roundness of the
ensemble to shine: soft tannins, silky texture, and a more than
convincing finish. It could easily pass for a wine 15 years younger.
Commentary:
It is evident that the winery put all its resources into crafting its "great wine." This Gonzalo de Berceo stands out for its vigor and structure within the classic Haro style.
