Winemaking
Meticulous grape selection upon arrival at the winery. Destemming and pressing conducted with maximum speed. The wine spent 12 months in glazed concrete vats and foundational-era large wooden tuns. It was transferred to barrels by gravity without filtration. Aged for 10 years in French oak barrels. Membrane-filtered prior to bottling. It rested for a minimum of 2 years in the bottle before its commercial release.

Tasting Notes
Appearance:
A spectacular ruby-red color; brilliant and luminous. It maintains a
color stability and appearance more typical of a wine from 1994 or 1995.
Remarkable poise with a very broad orange rim.
Nose:
A true jolt to the senses: powerful and complex. This is a universal
classic—a Great Rioja with a capital "G"—and without peer. Perfect. It
possesses almost everything, and every element is in its rightful place:
a torrent of honesty, humility, high expression, and an elegance that
is difficult to rival. It is an example of Riojan purity taken to the
paroxysm. Virtually no signs of reduction; pure black truffle and cedar.
Overwhelming in its complexity and pristine condition after 35 years.
It offers everything one demands from a legendary Murrieta: an expansive
palette of noble woods, truffle, chestnut, old leather, Russian birch,
and cedar. Radiant and in peak form, filled with high-quality nuances and a complexity
that leaves one speechless. There is something magical in the Marquis's
wines that suggests the final word has not yet been spoken.
Palate:
Elegance personified—cubed. It gives true meaning to the word
"balance," yet is endowed with that immense acidity characteristic of
Murrieta’s finest harvests. Savory, it grips the palate with enormous
force. Abundant ripe red fruit is enveloped by that intense acidity and
tannins sculpted in granite, featuring a highly complex weave and a
"tyrannical" structure. Wine transformed into poetry. The very best of
Rioja, bottled for eternity.
