Winemaking
The wine spent 12 months in vats to complete malolactic fermentation and stabilize before wood aging. It was subsequently matured for 36 months in semi-new 225-liter barriques (70% American oak, 30% French oak). A minimum of 36 months of bottle aging was completed in the winery’s underground cellars (calados) prior to its commercial release in the late 1980s. The bottles are recorked every 20 years.

Tasting Notes (18/07/2013)
Appearance: Garnet-ruby of medium-high depth, brilliant, limpid, and luminous with orange and reddish glints.
Nose:
Exceptional power, offering a wide array of sensory registers: truffle,
wet earth, a medley of peppercorns, and clove, over a background of
English tobacco and smoky notes. Extreme elegance. It is open, fragrant,
and complex, unveiling exotic woods and a foundation of citronella,
coriander seeds, and cinnamon. It maintains the stellar level of
previous tastings without showing any signs of decline.
Palate:
Characterized by a sharp, "cutting" acidity and a formidable structure.
It displays impressive volume, reach, and concentration, showing no
disadvantage compared to the Gran Reserva of the same vintage. Refined,
earthy, and fresh, featuring soft bitter nuances of licorice and ash
that complement the spicy red fruit, interwoven with cocoa and vanilla.
The finish is persistent and sparkling. Truly remarkable.

Tasting Notes (20/02/2013)
Appearance: Garnet-cherry hue of medium-high depth; orange-tinted rim and reddish reflections.
Nose:
Exceptional intensity with an overwhelming amount of sensory
information. Every element is defined by extreme elegance: cigar box,
cherries in liqueur, creamy nuances, aromatic coffee, and cocoa butter,
alongside black truffle and smoked pepper. It is metamorphic and
rhythmic, showing impressive depth and personality. A wine that radiates
quality and honesty—truly impressive.
Palate:
Absolute structural dominance. Enveloping and rounded, yet possessing a
"wild" concentration. It shows immense "punch" and nerve, driven by a
razor-sharp acidity that electrifies the gums. Despite its power, it
delivers one of the most beautiful expressions of Tempranillo ever
crafted in Rioja. It borders on perfection.
