The wine spent 12 months in large oak vats to complete malolactic fermentation and settle before racking. It was matured for 24 months in semi-new 225-liter American oak barrels. Unfiltered. A minimum of 36 months of bottle aging was completed in the winery’s underground cellars. Released to the market in the early 1980s.

Tasting Notes

Appearance: Brownish-ruby with medium depth; somewhat turbid and opaque with orange and copper highlights. It features a broad, tawny (tile-red) rim. Open and clean.

Nose: Aromas of great sweetness: hard candy, toffee, lactic hints, and notes of cherries in liqueur and cocoa (After-Eight mints, sage, nettles). Highly mature and toasty, with a fine smoky sensation and seasoned wood in the background.

Palate: Candied and slightly sweet on the palate, with sufficient acidity and a heavy oak influence that isn't fully integrated. Savory and fleshy with supple tannins; it is nearing the end of its life span. To be enjoyed now rather than cellared further. This was the first wine bottled under the "Cvne Reserva" label, marking a step up from the classic 5º Año Crianza. This brand was born out of the unfortunate 1974 vintage—a year so challenging that the winery’s flagship labels, Imperial and Viña Real, were not produced.
