Tasting Notes

Appearance: Evolved, medium-bodied brownish-ruby; clear but showing some turbidity. It displays amber and copper highlights.

Nose: Immensely mature and powerful on the nose; overripe, with oxidative hints of rancio, seasoned wood, wine-soaked staves, nuts, and solera nuances. Overall, it is a highly evolved red with a background of dried fruits (figs, Nakhla dates, carob), beeswax, and a very slight alcoholic edge. It lacks significant nuance.

Palate: Warm and spicy on the palate; highly reduced with a sharp, pungent note that is difficult to place. It is extremely lean on acidity, featuring rugged tannins—rustic, simple, and dominated by wood influence. Time has clearly taken its toll. This was a "decoy" wine in a vertical tasting of Gran Coronas Etiqueta Negra. An intriguing red—one of those historic wines that was once a benchmark in the Jumilla region—boasting a nearly abandoned style that currently has little to offer and is well past its prime. The Con Sello Reserva was discontinued years ago and seems to have found a worthy successor in the current Pura Sangre Reserva.
