Winemaking:
Following alcoholic fermentation, the wine underwent malolactic fermentation in large neutral wooden vats, where it remained for 5 years. Subsequently, it was transferred to used wooden casks and moved progressively to older barrels for a total of 10 years. The remainder of its maturation took place in the bottle prior to its commercial release throughout the year 2000. Production was limited to 94,500 standard bottles (75 cl) and 2,000 magnums.

Tasting Notes
Appearance:
Spectacular garnet-ruby color with medium-high depth; highly extracted
and opaque, yet remarkably clean. Featuring brilliant and luminous
garnet and amber reflections. Minimal coppery rim, showing a sharp
contrast against the meniscus.
Nose:
Despite being opened five hours prior to service, the wine remains
remarkably stoic. It intimidates with its initial purity and severity,
revealing its seismic depth only in parsimonious increments. What it
eventually yields is glorious: black fruit and India ink, over a
foundation where cocoa butter is infused with an array of mineral and
earthy nuances. A telluric, demanding, and complex wine that eschews the
estate's instinctive elegance to dig deep into the bedrock of the
Valbuena vineyard.
Palate:
A direct challenge to the passage of time. It is upright and as solid
as a block of concrete, possessing a stony structure and profound
natural beauty. It delivers a purely "terroir-driven" character—grape
skins, bramble, and earth—all wrapped in a misty, velvety habit that
seems to levitate. It exudes absolute truth.
Commentary:
The 1970 Único Magnum is a wine of haunting beauty, arguably unmatched in its class. It represents a monumental achievement in winemaking, where the rugged essence of the soil is transformed into a sublime, ethereal experience. It is a legendary bottle whose memory is destined to endure, standing as the definitive expression of one of the greatest vintages in Ribera del Duero history.
