Tasting Notes

Appearance: Reddish-ruby color with medium depth; remarkably clear and clean, with a very slight sediment at the base. Brilliant and radiant with coppery and amber reflections. Broad, fully tile-colored rim, showing little difference from the interior of the meniscus.

Nose: Well-defined from the moment of opening. Medium-intensity aromas; clean and frank, gaining lightness and elegance with aeration. Initial sensations are earthy (forest floor, walnut bark) and spicy. Traces of nutmeg and vanilla emerge, giving way to shy notes of fine woods, cedar, and chestnut staves. Balanced and vigorous, it becomes increasingly established, with a soft perfume of withered flowers sweeping over a background of barely visible reduced fruit. A delicate nose, yet replete with high-quality details.

Palate: Caressing and silky to the touch; dry, with an exquisitely fine and light framework that might suggest weakness but remains very much alive. The tannins are luxurious—mature, plush, and perfectly integrated. It is the epitome of balance, without a single sharp edge. A remnant of very ripe fruit remains seamlessly assembled.

Commentary:
This inaugural vintage of Coto de Imaz shines with its own light. It has reached its optimal drinking window, offering a masterclass in harmony and traditional Riojan elegance. A wine that prioritizes subtlety and silken textures over raw power.
