Tasting Notes

Appearance: Brownish-ruby color with medium depth; remarkably clean and absolutely sediment-free, suggesting a light re-filtration before its recent bottling. Brilliant and vivid with reddish and amber reflections. Broad, tile-colored rim.

Nose: High intensity and well-defined. It is dominated by a warm note of black fruit compote (plums) melded with orange peel, marron glacé, and maraschino liqueur. This is accompanied by the house's characteristic display of sweet spices and vanilla in the background. Quintessentially classic, fine, and "very Faustino," showing no concessions to modern trends. It appears less reduced than earlier releases of the same vintage. Aeration reveals subtle hints of fine cabinetry, old leather, licorice, and stable.

Palate: Silky and light-bodied yet lively. It features a superior, vibrant acidity and a profound core of seasoned wood. Round and smooth, it possesses velvety tannins and a toasted finish not commonly found in other Faustino releases. It remains as consistent and enjoyable as ever.

Commentary:
Faustino deserves commendation for making one of its finest vintages accessible to enthusiasts in such impeccable condition. More than just a wine, this "re-release" from the Oyón cellars is a gift to the market, offered at a price barely 50% higher than the current vintage. It is an exemplary move that other Riojan wineries with historic stocks should emulate. A reliable classic with a long, stable future ahead.
