Tasting Notes
Appearance:
Reddish-ruby color with medium depth; clean and opaque. Reflections
fluctuate between orange and copper with moderate brilliance. Broad
orange rim; significant viscosity with abundant, persistent tears.
Nose:
Loaded and powerful on the nose; expressive and endowed with great
personality, though its sheer potency occasionally overshadows finer
details. It is packed with aromas of fruit in liqueur, infused rose
hips, and hibiscus tea, set against a background of cola candy and
vanilla that lingers, still somewhat detached, alongside seasoned wood.
Broad and mature, it claims its space in the glass as it breathes,
revealing notes of aromatic herbs, tobacco shreds, molasses, and clove. A
relentless and atypical profile for López de Heredia.
Palate:
The palate is "gordote" (full-bodied) and thick, featuring an initial
touch of sweetness that momentarily counters its implacable acidity.
Savory and expansive, it is filled with spices and creamy textures.
While it ventures far from the house’s habitual path, it remains
undeniably attractive.
Commentary:
A red that is beginning to offer its first rewards after a long journey. Having just reached its first "port," it seems destined to remain in transit for a considerable time. This Tondonia bears the hallmark of the 2001 vintage, marked in glowing red. It will be essential to follow its evolution closely to see if it fulfills its great promise. Bottles will certainly not be lacking for the task.
