Winemaking:
The wine spends 12 months in large old wooden vats for fermentation and stabilization before being racked to barrels. It matures in used 225-liter American oak barrels for 60 months, with periodic rackings every 6-9 months to avoid the need for filtration before bottling. Traditional fining with fresh egg whites. Aged for a minimum of 4 years in the winery’s underground bottle racks before commercial release.

Tasting Notes
Appearance:
Brownish-ruby color with medium-low depth; very clear and translucent.
Significant amount of sediment at the base, although the wine remains
extremely clean. Brilliant with tile-colored (atejado) and coppery
reflections. Broad rim, showing almost no difference from the interior
of the meniscus.
Nose:
Elegant reduction with a dominant focus on fungal and earthy notes:
forest floor, bark, and humus. Aromas of dried fruit (fortified wine
style), smoked meat, ground pepper, and old leather appear, though the
intensity fails to build. It seems to lack the necessary strength to
fully unfold. Flawless and balanced, following the winery’s classic line
that remains pleasing even in less remarkable years.
Palate:
It appears to have reached its peak a few years ago, though it is still
fully enjoyable. Light-bodied, with a notable dose of freshness and the
necessary acidity to persist. The ensemble is highly polished and may
verge on being slightly weak. Burnished, vaporous tannins in a relaxed
structure with moderate weight. Its style is reminiscent of a Faustino
Gran Reserva.
Commentary:
It is best to drink any remaining bottles soon before it begins to fade. It lacks that "something extra" found in the winery's legendary vintages but remains a dignified and classically styled Rioja.
