Winemaking
Grapes selected from various plots across Rioja Alta. Fermentation took place in old wooden tuns for 18 months. The wine was then aged for 30 months in oak barrels, undergoing two manual rackings per year. It was aged for an additional two years in the cellar before its commercial release.

Note of Interest
Although the back label from the Control Board classifies it as a Vino de Crianza, the front label designates it as a Reserva. Given its extensive time in both barrel and bottle, it technically meets the criteria for a Gran Reserva. The only difference between this wine and the estate's Gran Reserva from the same vintage was six months less in barrel and a release date 12 months earlier; the grape sources and percentages remained identical.

Tasting Notes
Appearance: Brick-colored ruby of low depth with a tawny rim; brilliant and exceptionally clean, showing reddish and orange highlights.
Nose:
Clean and brilliant. It gains power minutes after opening, displaying a
deeply classical profile with traditional Riojan aging notes:
"barnyard," intensely ripe red fruit, damp leather, and spices. An
impeccable and clean red, featuring fine hints of leaf litter, withered
petals, wine-soaked staves, vanilla, nutmeg, and black pepper.
Palate: Unctuous and concentrated; bone-dry. It shows great roundness, balance, and
savoriness, endowed with excellent acidity. It does not feel its age
(over 40 years). The historic Campo Viejo wines bear no resemblance to
contemporary versions, as this "viejuno" clearly attests. Massive.
