Winemaking
The blend includes a negligible percentage of white varietals (primarily Viura), as it was customary at the time to plant white vines at the head of the rows for family consumption, which were ultimately harvested and processed alongside the red grapes. The wine spent approximately 12 months in tanks before maturing for 50 months in seasoned 225-liter American oak barrels. Regular rackings were performed every three months during the first three years to avoid the need for filtration prior to bottling. Clarified through traditional methods using fresh egg whites and bottled by hand directly from the cask. It rested for a minimum of 5 years in the bottle prior to its commercial release. Bottles are recorked every 15 years.

Tasting Notes

Appearance: Very pale brownish-ruby of medium-low depth; clean, with luminous amber and reddish highlights. It features a broad orange rim with almost no variation against the meniscus.

Nose: Clean aromas of red fruit compote, sour cherry in liqueur, and chocolate bonbon, with high-impact creamy toasted notes. Open, seductive, and unapologetic. As it breathes, it reveals classical aging notes (barnyard, bitter orange marmalade, leather, leaf litter, and smoked spices) over a perfumed backdrop of withered flowers from fine reduction. Somewhat unruly and lacking order, yet immensely enjoyable. A Riscal in peak condition—extroverted, though strangely atypical for the estate due to its chaotic and voluptuous character.

Palate: Follows the same stylistic line. Light to the touch, with a freshness anchored in a sharp, "Riscal-style" acidity. The ensemble is concentrated, with savory notes of fine bitters, orange marmalade, and citrus. It is not a paragon of elegance, nor does it aim to be. There is an abundance of fruit, far outweighing the oak influence, which never dominates. With aeration, it gains smoothness and the hint of sweetness becomes more pronounced. It lacks sobriety but excels in every other regard. A true "youngster".
