Winemaking
Grapes sourced from old estate vineyards and local growers. Fermentation took place in large wooden vats and concrete tanks until the completion of malolactic fermentation. The wine was aged for 24 to 30 months in seasoned 225-liter American oak barrels. Bottled directly from the cask. It rested for a minimum of 12 months in the cellar prior to its commercial release.

Tasting Notes
Appearance:
Very pale brownish-ruby color of medium-low depth; turbid and dark with
limited brilliance. It shows timid coppery reflections and a matte
finish. The rim is completely tawny and wide. It displays a strong sense
of viscosity with persistent legs.
Nose: Muted and very discreet on the nose, lacking significant detail. There are notes of old wood, wine-soaked staves, and hints of solera
and oxidation that align more with the traditional fortified wine
profile of Tarragona than a classic red. It awakens very slowly,
eventually revealing candied black fruit, macerated plums, tapenade,
ground spices (clove, black pepper), and a faint balsamic accent in the
background. A rustic and simple ensemble, increasingly showing toasted
notes and nutshells.
Palate:
Quite limited in strength. It appears its peak has long passed, yet it
stays alive thanks to a thin thread of acidity that comes and goes.
Broad, candied, warm, and toasted; filled with spices and pleasant
bitter nuances. One can sense this was a wine made with great care, but
it has reached us on its last legs. It must be consumed immediately;
further cellaring is not advised.
Commentary
This 1970 from Pedro Rovira is a testament to the traditional winemaking of Tarragona. Although it is currently in a fragile state of decline, it still offers a glimpse into the rustic and warm character of the region's historical reds. A nostalgic bottle that serves as a liquid record of a bygone era in Mora La Nova.
