Winemaking:
Grapes sourced entirely from the winery’s oldest estate vineyards. Fermentation took place in stainless steel tanks at controlled temperatures (26–27°C) for 12 days. The wine matured for 48 months in seasoned American oak barrels (average age 5–6 years). It underwent six manual rackings using the traditional gravity and decantation method. A minimum of 36 months of bottle aging in the winery’s cellars was required before its commercial release.

Tasting Notes
Appearance:
Garnet-ruby color with medium depth; clear and slightly more evolved
than expected for its age. Reddish and brownish reflections with
moderate brilliance. Broad, coppery rim with a notable sense of
viscosity and thick, persistent tears.
Nose:
High intensity and profound personality. It opens with potent notes of
toasted oak and wine-soaked staves, joined by mineral accents (graphite,
iron, earth) and a diverse array of herbal nuances: tea leaves,
fenugreek, sea fennel, laurel, and sage. Orderly, precise, and
consistently tense, it unfolds into an exhibition of ripe fruit (prunes,
cherries) set against a mysterious, telluric background of peat, damp
earth, and roots. It exudes terroir and character; while distant from
the standard traditional profile, it remains a quintessential Rioja
educated in wood.
Palate:
Savory and solid yet remarkably weightless. It features fatty,
caressing tannins and a greater fruitiness than anticipated. A fantastic
acidity provides freshness, complemented by high-quality
bitters—reminiscent of grated cocoa—that echo the herbal notes perceived
on the nose.
Commentary:
An immensely interesting wine that defies convention and has largely flown under the radar, likely due to the winery's export focus. This Gran Reserva stands in a category of its own—neither strictly modern nor traditional—showcasing high-quality Tempranillo with an independent voice. While already polished, it possesses the potential to evolve beautifully over the next 10 to 15 years. A truly delightful surprise.
