Winemaking:
Grapes sourced entirely from clay-limestone vineyards surrounding the municipality of Ollauri in Rioja Alta. The wine spent between 6 and 12 months in large tanks to complete fermentation and stabilization before racking. It matured for 54 months in semi-neutral 225-liter American oak barrels, with periodic rackings performed every 6–8 months during the first four years. A minimum of 36 months of bottle aging in the winery’s cellars was required before its commercial release.

Tasting Notes
Appearance:
Ruby-red with medium-high depth; opaque and absolutely clean, showing
no signs of sediment at the base. Vibrant copper and orange reflections;
luminous. Narrow, tawny rim, sharply defined against the meniscus.
Nose:
Powerful and expressive, marked by high-quality oak that provides fine
toasted notes (aromatic coffee, cocoa, creamy registers), followed by a
display of crushed spices. Smoky, broad, and complex, it evolves
continuously, revealing perfumed, reduced red fruits joined by balsamic
notes of ivy, laurel, and sage. Tense and unburdened by time, it feels
almost youthful for its age.
Palate:
It maintains the nerve and the hallmark of a great wine that the nose
suggested. Savory and medium-bodied, it is energetic and concentrated
while remaining polished and seamless. Balanced, with silky tannins and
well-adjusted acidity. It is currently in a fantastic drinking window,
though it is unlikely to develop further.
Commentary:
A very well-crafted Beronia from the estate's early era, sketching the winery's project and signaling the path for its subsequent wines. It appears to have moved away from the extreme classicism of the 1973 Cosecha Fundacional, initiating the unrepeatable series of Gran Reservas from '78, '81, and '82. The winery’s current range should look back and take note of what was achieved before the arrival of González Byass. Wines like this are always missed.
