Winemaking:
40% of the grapes are sourced from estate vineyards, with the remainder from small growers in Rioja Alta and selected trusted producers. Each varietal is vinified separately in 18,000-liter oak vats. A traditional filtration method using dried grape stalks is employed during racking. The wine undergoes 12 months of stabilization in vats before aging for 36 to 48 months in neutral American oak barrels (averaging 12 years of age). Manual rackings are performed every four months. Clarified with fresh egg whites and aged for a minimum of three years in the winery’s underground cellars before its release in the mid-1980s.

Appearance:
Medium-intensity ruby-red; very clear, limpid, and completely free of
sediment. Displays vibrant amber reflections and a brilliant sheen. The
rim is broad and distinctly tawny (atejado).
Nose:
Spicy and intense. It opens with a generous core of macerated red and
black fruit that gradually gives way to notes of dried herbs and
medicinal ointments. It evolves into an elusive, "autumnal" profile,
revealing layers of forest floor (sotobosque), walnut bark, old leather, morels, and fungal undertones, with a characteristic hint of stable (pesebre). A fine, elegant, and ever-changing bouquet, reminiscent of the winery's 1973 vintage.
Palate:
Lighter than expected but remarkably savory and agile. It is sharp and
driven by a core of freshness and vibrant acidity. The wine gains
concentration as it breathes, growing in the glass over time. Perfectly
proportioned and polished, it shows no harsh edges, featuring silky
tannins and delicate, fine bitters on the finish.
