Winemaking
The wine rested for 18 months in large wooden tuns. It then underwent an extensive aging period of 72 to 84 months (depending on the batch) in 225-liter American oak barrels. Clarified with fresh egg whites. It was aged for a minimum of 10 years in the bottle prior to its release. Sealed with a special wax capsule to ensure longevity and cork hygiene. Marketed in 1983.

Tasting Notes
Appearance:
Brownish-ruby of medium depth; slightly darker than other wines from
the same vintage. It features a broad orange rim. Clean, bright, and
luminous, with no visible sediment.
Nose:
Initially powerful and slightly reductive, showing vegetal hints of
roasted bell pepper and mint. It opens up with a suggestive range of
finely balsamic and medicinal aromatic herbs: sage, mountain tea, dried
oregano, and fenugreek. Upon aeration, elegant smoky and spicy notes
emerge, reminiscent of La Vera
smoked paprika. The oak influence is non-intrusive, contributing creamy
undertones and classic expressions of fine cabinetry and noble woods.
The ensemble is integral and sustained, gaining power over several hours
to reveal its varietal profile with hints of withered flowers and very
ripe red fruit.
Palate:
A vibrant red with a "nervioso" character and sparkling acidity of
great quality. Plenty of tannins are present, though they are
well-sculpted and rounded by age. It shows strong concentration and a
palate-saturating sensation that contrasts with its traditional style:
vanilla, creamy toast, and spices. A high-quality touch of sweetness
indicates a fully integrated wine. Harmonious and highly pleasurable to
drink. It is currently in an "Exalted" (Excelso) moment; I would not cellar it much longer. It displays a distinct personality that sets it apart from other classic Riojas.
